EMP News and OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
The damage to the ionosphere from an EMP is short lived, depending on it's type and intensity.  Most last from minutes to hours.  In this simulated event, if your equipment is shielded, disconnected and protected you will be able to operate on HF, VHF and UHF.  Equipment that is damaged would require replacement from your cashe or other available sources.  Damaged equipment would be solid-state devices that are connected to power, coax and antennas and even microphones or long speaker leads.

If you are over 50 miles from the Mount Weather, Virginia location and have poly-phasers, and effective MOVs, and  If you have equipment stored in trash cans that are metal with tight fitting lids, you should also be in good shape.  Metal ammunition cans also make excellent storage containers.  If you have computers that remain connected to power when the EMP occurs, you will have no source to send your Winlink traffic.  Computer encasements are mostly plastic or non-conductive material and provide no real shielding.  Make sure that you have what would be fuctional computers.  Laptops could be placed in EMP bags.  Most TNCs have metal encasements and have internal MOVs so these should be good unless located near the point of the explosion.

Below are information on EMPs.  There are many others available  on the Internet.
