Winlink Basic Instructions
Do not attempt to upload a "White List" on the day of the exercise.  If you feel a need to upload a new "White List" do so by going to the served agency prior to the exercise day and up load your list.

NEVER place a regular Winlink address on a "White List".  All Winlink addresses will automatically be handled by the Winlink server.  If you upload a list that includes Winlink addresses it will lock up the gateway attempting to handle the list.  We witnessed this in the last SET.

Do not upload multiple messages but space your messages based on the time stamp on the messages.  This will allow the smooth flow of traffic on Winlink servers.

Before you transmit a Winlink message, watch the "S" meter on your Winlink radio. If your receiver is getting a "S" meter reading, wait until the "S" meter is not indicating that other traffic is being passed before your hit the green send button.

After you send Winlink traffic to a local station, go to your local net and ask net control for permission to call the receiving station and announce that you have sent them traffic on Winlink.  They can then connect and check for incoming messages and that will eliminate the need for automatic poling or constant manual poling

In the "Subject Line" of your traffic, list the precedence of your traffic.  This will do several things to assist with the handling of the message.  It will allow the Winlink server to accept you traffic from a regular email address without you being on the Winlink station's "White List".  It would allow the Winlink server to handle the message based on it's importance.  It would allow the receiving station to recognize the importance of the message at first glance.

Here is a three examples of this usage in the "Subject Line"

//WL2K Z/ - Flash (for urgent message use only)
//WL2K O/ - Immediate (for urgent message use only)
//WL2K P/ - Priority (traffic with time value)

In practice, you would use the //WL2K P Followed by the actual subject.  The subject line may look like the following.  //WL2K P/ Meals needed at this location for the evening meal.
