Carroll County Search and Rescue-2021
Standard Operating Procedure for Call Out

Carroll County Search and Rescue operates under the command and direction of the Carroll County Sheriff’s department with the Sheriff or his designee being the “Responsible Agent”.  We will also support Carroll County Emergency Management upon request. We currently have no Memorandum of Understanding with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management; therefore are not on their call out list. Carroll County has a mutual aid agreement with all other counties in the Commonwealth of Virginia. If the county calls upon us as part of that mutual aid agreement we will act as one of the many resources of this county.

Our call out procedure is as follows; The Sheriff will first make contact via phone to Carroll County Rescue Squad contacts in the following order.

2022 Officers:

Jeff Martin, Capt.   236-9737     Cell....235-3092
Glen Sage, Communications   398-3548     Cell....266-4456 (SAR Calling Tree)                           ,
1st Lt. James Hutchens    728-5826      Cell....733-2365
2nd Lt. Tom Dotson      Cell....733-3232

After making phone contact with a person from the list, the Sheriff’s dispatcher may be requested to place a call out on the sheriff’s radio system, for SAR members to meet at the Search and Rescue building or a staging area in preparation for a search. When responding to the call out, all members should monitor 155.160 (the National SAR frequency) for additional instructions such as the mission being terminated.
