Skywarn for Operation Noah, Oct 1, 2012
Phil Hysell from the Blacksburg, VA National Weather Service will develop a weather profile based on a "Five Hundred Year Flood."  He will have this information for us around the 20th of September.

There will be two Skywarn radio operators at the NWS..  Winlink traffic should be sent to rnk.skywarn@noaa.gov for this event.  Skywarn will operate on two meters, voice only and will receive weather reports via Winlink at the email address of rnk.skywarn@noaa.gov..  Regular weather situation reports will be sent out from the NWS station  via email to Winlink stations.  This will allow the NWS two meter voice station to receive brief regular weather reports from the affected areas and give reports to "at risk areas."

Skywarn will be active throughout the exercise with the NWS office receiving reports direct from individuals and from local Skywarn reports gathered from local nets that are picking up reports from individuals in their local area.

There will be other nets active in handling tactical and other traffic.  Heath and Welfare traffic will not be passed during the early stages of any "real time exercise" of this type.

The NWS offices have harden Internet and phone service that would allow them to continue to operate when most field service phones and Internet would be out of service.  It is realist for the phone and Internet to be operational at the NWS while those of us in the field must rely on Winlink and other RF means of communications due to simulated power outages, phones down and no Internet service.
